"Alanson Close was the son of Benjamin Close and Elizabeth Gail (Gale). Around June of 1817, Alanson, who was about 3 years old, left with his family for Ohio. He traveled with his father, mother, his uncle Henry and his older sister Marinda. They took Benjamin's team to Buffalo, NY. From Buffalo they took a boat to Cleveland.
Elizabeth and the children stayed with a cousin of Benjamin's in Painesville while Henry and Benjamin set about finding land and building shelter. The Close family were pioneer settlers in Sullivan.
Alanson married Jerusha Mathews in Sullivan, Ashland, Ohio on 20 Sep 1832. He and Jerusha had six children: five girls and one boy.
He died at age 29 - his wife and daughters surviving him."
